Jen,

Here is FIU's policy on Professional Development Leave and the criteria for
same.

While it does not specify work-related or university-sponsored professional
development, it does address absences from the University.
http://policies.fiu.edu/files/75.pdf Hope this is helpful.

Subject: [acupa-l] Release Time for Professional Development

Greetings from North Dakota:

To what extent do your institutions have policies that encourage or support
employee participation in work-related or university-sponsored professional
development opportunities without the need to make up the time spent outside
the office? We are specifically looking at policies that identify the provision
of reasonable time away from work for professional development purposes.

Thanks in advance,

JEN
