I'm coming out of retirement briefly to answer this one, as it is easy. The
University of Kansas, Lawrence, policy on animals in buildings is here:
http://policy.ku.edu/provost/animals-in-buildings Our policy was first
promulgated nearly 25 years ago--of course it has been tweaked over time as new
federal regulations related to assistance animals have been formulated (thus
the rather oblique reference to miniature horses). The original policy
resulted from a rather unique collaboration of faculty scientists and custodial
staff. The former were concerned about the possibility that domestic animals
in laboratory buildings could endanger the health of lab animals; the latter,
with the clean-up problems that occasionally resulted from the presence of
pets. With a couple of notable exceptions, our faculty, staff, and students
have accommodated quite gracefully to the policy.

P.S. Retirement continues to be very enjoyable!

Subject: RE:[acupa-l] Seeking Policy regarding Animals on Campus

Ohio State doesn’t have a policy that addresses animals on campus. We have a
University Rule…rules are part of the Ohio Administrative Code, which I’ve cut
and pasted below. It is available on line at:
http://trustees.osu.edu/rules/university-rules/rules13/ru13-05.html Rules are
updated through a separate process than university policies, and this one was
last updated in 2001.

3335-13-05 Control of dogs and other animals.
(A) No person, being the owner or keeper, or harboring or having charge of any
dog or other animal, shall permit the same upon the grounds of the Ohio state
university unless it be under the personal control of its owner or keeper by a
leash not more than six feet in length. A dog or other animal, leashed but
unattended, is not under the personal control of its owner or keeper. Nor shall
such a person, being the owner or keeper or harboring or having charge of any
dog or other animal, permit the same in any university building or housing,
except for seeing eye dogs when accompanying their masters and except for
animals brought by their owner or keeper for use for approved research purposes
or for observation or care by veterinary clinic personnel.
(B) Any dog or other animal found upon the grounds of the Ohio state university
or in any university building, except as permitted pursuant to the provisions
of paragraph (A) of this rule, may be taken into custody by university
authorities. University authorities shall, as soon as practicable after
assuming custody thereof, turn the dog or other animal over to appropriate
county or municipal authorities for delivery to the custody of the humane
society. Release from custody should be sought pursuant to the society's rules.
(C) The owner or keeper of any dog or other animal taken into custody by
university officials pursuant to this rule shall pay a fine to the university,
upon presentation of a bill therefor, to reimburse the university for costs
incurred in impounding the dog or other animal and turning it over to the
control and custody of county or municipal authorities. (B/T 7/31/69, B/T
9/2/71, B/T 9/10/76, B/T 8/29/2001)

Subject: [acupa-l] Seeking Policy regarding Animals on Campus

Hello,

Our institution is developing a policy to ban animals on campus. This, of
course, does not pertain to Service Animals – we have a separate policy for
that. Does anyone have a stand-alone policy banning “non-service animals on
campus” that they would be willing to share?

Thank you,
