Hi Bob, Ours at Yale is the same as Michele's with the addition of any leg of a trip that is six hours of air time or more. There are medical exceptions and various rules for Sponsored awards. Here is the comparable language: Traveler(s) may, with preapproval from their unit, upgrade from coach to the next most economical class of travel over coach (business class in most cases, first class in cases where business class is not offered), when the total flight time from departure to arrival is 8 or more hours (including connecting domestic legs). That is more time than it takes to fly from Denver to Tokyo, and seems excessively long, to me, so I wondered if it represents any sort of standard practice. Any info re: grounds for allowing upgrades would be appreciated! /RS/ Robert Schur, JD Exec.
