Alan,
Our Nursing Mothers/breastfeeding policy and procedure is at
http://inside.mines.edu/UserFiles/File/PoGo/Policies/HRS/HRS_Nursing_Mothers_Policy.pdf

We don't have the telecommute policy either.
Good luck on these topics.

Hi Alan,
Here is our Breastfeeding/Lactation policy – we do not have one on
Telecommuting.

Breastfeeding/Lactation
Wake Tech provides accommodation for nursing mothers who wish to express breast
milk during the workday. For up to one year after the birth of her child, an
employee who is breastfeeding will be provided reasonable breaks of up to 20
minutes each time the employee has need to express milk during the workday. The
employee will also be provided a designated room (other than a restroom) that
is shielded from view and free from intrusion from coworkers and the public
which may be used by the employee for expressing breast milk.
Breaks of longer than 20 minutes will be unpaid; supervisors should report
unpaid break time to HR.
The safety and storage of breast milk in the workplace is the sole
responsibility of the employee. If breast milk is stored in a refrigerator
shared by others, it must be placed in a discreet container clearly labeled
with the employee’s name. The college is not liable for any damage to the milk,
including improper storage, refrigeration, or tampering.
This lactation policy meets the requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act
(FLSA) as it relates to breaks for nursing mothers.

I have been asked to do some research in two policy areas:

          Telecommuting / Teleworking

          Nursing Mothers

If you have anything in place that has been working for you in either or both
of these areas, I would appreciate knowing about it.

Thanks,

Alan

P.S. I thought the sessions at the Orlando conference were very beneficial to
me as a new kid. I also really enjoyed getting to know some of you, and wish
there had been time to chat in person with more of you.

HI Donna,
I have been subscribed to this while it was free - they have had some
informative material. Will we consider a membership now that it is member only
- they are individual memberships/not institutional though, I believe balance
of membership terms can be changed or redesignated.

Membership fee is $150
At the moment I don't see any others from Buffalo State as members (though out
campus name is misspelled in the directory) Your thoughts?

Let's try a different approach. Does anyone have other repercussions besides
placing a registration hold or dismissing students from classes at a certain
point in the semester? Do you allow students with an outstanding balance to
participate in graduation? Do you allow them to continue to practice/play
sports? What about campus employment? Do you allow them to continue to work?

Thank you for any info that you might be able to provide.

Thank you.

Nikki

Hello Nikki:

One approach that works (especially if you work at a smaller college), is to
call the student into the office to learn more about the problem. Is it
finances? Does the student think he or she should not have to pay the charges
associated with the past due account balance? There are times when students
cannot pay smaller balances and if applicable, they can apply for funds from an
emergency fund or ask for assistance from the Foundation. What seems not to
work is adding significant late fees and financial penalties on top of the
balances.

Hope that helps,
RMB
