Hello Deena, The University of Washington is a three-campus system with two much smaller campuses than the flagship Seattle campus. I suspect our track record contains many more honorary degrees from schools, colleges, and programs from the Seattle campus (which has been around for more than 150 years, as compared to the two smaller campuses that are each celebrating their 25th year anniversaries).
However, our policy makes no distinction between the potential degree programs offered at the various campuses, see the following: "Honorary Degrees Upon the recommendation of the faculty, the Board of Regents may confer honorary degrees upon a person or persons of exceptional merit, other than graduates of this University. The Special Committee on Honorary Degrees will have jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to the award of honorary degrees. Nominations for candidates may come from a variety of sources, including faculty councils, committees, departments, programs, schools, colleges, or campuses. The names of nominees approved by the special committee will be forwarded to the President of the University. After consultation with the President, the special committee will, on behalf of the faculty, recommend candidates for honorary degrees to the Regents. Honorary degrees will be presented at either a commencement ceremony or a formal academic convocation." Wishing the all the best on this concept. Namely, if a particular campus or institution within a system does not offer an academic doctoral program, is that particular campus or institution able to offer an honorary doctorate, or are honorary doctorates only offered from institutions within the system that do have supporting academic doctoral programs? Our System structure with multi-campus institutions is relatively new and evolving, so right now our flagship campus is the only one in our system with an honorary degree policy. I was curious how other systems handle this matter.
