Hello sunny, At Memorial University, we refer to these as Local or Unit-level policies. Our “Policy onPolicies” contains this statement regarding them:
Units may develop local policies that have applicability within their unit, as long as the policies are consistent with University-wide policies and the development of the local policies follows the same principles for development, consultation, approval, dissemination and review as the University-wide policies. My office has no authority or responsibility in the oversight or administration of these, however, I am contacted periodically for advice, guidance or ideas and I attempt to help where I can. Specifically, our graduate college is creating some new policies. They have asked who approves them and how they make sure they are in line with university policy. I don't want to become the gatekeeper for all lower level policies at the university, but wonder how this works for you? Thanks for your comments.
