Deena, At Memorial University, we do not have a central policy, either. Here is the relevant Campus Enforcement and Patrol webpage: http://www.mun.ca/cep/lost_and_found.php

We have a central lost and found office, which lists their procedures online here: https://www.purdue.edu/transportation/information/lost_found.html It’s my understanding that unclaimed items are sent to University Surplus<https://www.purdue.edu/surplus/index.html> where they are either disposed of or sold according to their procedures. This isn’t something that is documented in policy either, so I don’t know what happens to the money made through sales of surplus items. Hope this helps. Just curious if anyone has a policy (or policies) on Unclaimed Property. We have one currently related to those items that funnel through the police department due to a case or investigation, etc, but we have some folks looking to draft one for non-police acquired property (such as lost and found in student union, residence halls, etc.) where there would be an auction and proceeds go to scholarship. We’re trying to reduce our policy manual volume from nearly 300 to closer to 200, so I’d rather not add another miscellaneous policy if we can attach the content elsewhere. Just curious what other campuses may be doing here… Thanks!
