I'm completely confused.
Do you want a service? Or do you want a security group? Event logs are generally read by using WMI. It's easy to use and interfaces to it are available in most languages. If you create a service, you are simply going to be exposing WMI capability already present in the OS. Some people do this in order to have a watcher that looks for specific events and notifies something else. That capability is now built-into Vista/Server2008, but was not present in earlier OS versions. Regards, Michael B.
