It was a MS support tech. Suprised me, too. I had attempted a system state
restore on the exact same server that had previously failed.
I'll take your suggestion about USN, too. Thanks. Having said that, I do
recall that MS didn't support imaging of even workstations for quite a while.
The imaging might well prove valuable only to be able to salvage the other apps
on that server. I'll do some more testing and reading.
