Dear friends,
Now this is a WRONG - the poor man is being barred
from getting his driving license. Mind you he was not a reckless driver that
cause the death of others. Mind you he was not summoned for 'drunk-driving" or
'drivinng under the influence of drugs" - in those cases, maybe suspension of
your driving license for a couple of months may have been alright and acceptable
- BUT not for this case.
Malaysia really do not have a very efficient public
transport system. And taxis are also not cheap. This man was using a motor-bike
(not a big Car), for if he was rich, he could get a 'driver' to drive him
around.
Summons - many a time we are even not aware that we
have traffic summons. When we check on the internet, we see that there are
summons - and many a time we wonder why we never received any of these summons.
I just checked and saw that I had 3 summons, 2 of which was in 2002 and I am
certain that this should not be the case. Everytime, I get a summons, I would
take the trouble to settle it as soon as possible. So, in this case one wonders
whether he even received those summons - and note also he surrendered himself to
the police. He was undefended - and besides the fine, he now cannot drive for 11
years - THIS IS UNJUST.
I hope that persons, organisations and NGOs would
come out and voice their unhappiness.
Depriving someone of their driving license is definitely wrong and
cruel.
In solidarity,
Charles Hector
