Basically, when you make it that simple to post to individuals rather than 
having the default set to the list you end up with several issues based on my 
experience:

1. First and foremost you end up with double posts most of the time.
2. When the default is set too the originator and not the list you end up 
loosing much information that is valuable to list members as it tends to 
facilitate off list discussions.
3. One of the issues with such "side bar" discussions is that it makes it very 
difficult to coordinate and guide a project during its startup phase.
