Just a personal opinion, of course, but I agree with the Gaaaaaah comment.
I've always found web forums to be clunky and frustrating, even though I have the luxury of a high speed connection. I much prefer good old fashioned newsgroups that allow the user to choose whatever client they like. There are also web front-ends available for newsreading for those that prefer that. It's also reasonably trivial to have mailing list postings forwarded to a newsgroup automatically. I think that offers the best of most worlds.
