Stefanie, When you put your clip in the monitor window, make sure that the clip is set to extract both audio and video. See the icon just below the monitor on the right. It could look like either a film clip, a speaker, or both. If you click on that icon, it will step from both, to the film clip, to the speaker and back to both. If only the film clip icon is showing, only video will be put on the timeline. If just the speaker is showing, only audio will extract. But, if both the speaker and film clip are showing, both audio and video will go on your timeline. Also, make sure that you have both a video and audio track selected on your timeline. Click on the Audio 1 box and the Video 1 box on the far left of the timeline to highlight the track. Premiere will not put a clip in the audio or video track if it is not selected on the far left of the timeline.
