I would have to agree. Sony's are great general purpose machines, but they do some things that give some programs fits.
I'm a LightWave user, and LW won't even run on a standard Vaio (as I've been told) Sony introduced a LightWave-compatible version, but that's more hoops to go through (and more money). I would have to agree with those who suggested having one built. A good Video editing machine will cost you some money. If you're trying to get by "on the cheap", then you'll probably be disappointed. Most capture cards suggest SCSI. That adds a lot more money. My SCSI system can play full screen vids (1600 x 1200) without a hitch. I can scrub the time line in Premiere without any jerkiness. A pre-configured SCSI system can easily run 3 or 4 thousand dollars. Even more, depending on any extras. A SCSI-3 RAID system can run double that amount. If you build the system yourself, it could cut the cost of your system in half (or there abouts). The last video editing system that I built for a customer ran around $2,500.00 for a basic SCSI-3, dual drive system. The customer was very pleased with the machine. If you can stand a little jerkiness when scrubbing full screen videos, then you (may) get by with a fast EIDE system. For EIDE systems, I've had good results using Asus motherboards and Seagate 7200 rpm EIDE drives. PS: 1 to 2 gigs of the fastest premium RAM should be an automatic consideration. Also: Some motherboards can run their RAM in "Dual Channel Memory Architecture" mode, which can nearly double the speed of your RAM. Just a few thoughts. Knuck --- "Jeffery J.
