Hello all,
I'm fairly new to video, so I apologize if what I'm asking seems
elementary, I'm hoping to get some help with my newly acquired Adobe
products.
Background - I'm using Pinnacle Studio 8 and Dazzle 150 to capture
(precious old family) VHS video to my (PC - XP - P4 3.0 - 512MB RAM -
Gforce 5200 128MB video card) computer. Dazzle has a MPEG2 encoder
and records video to a "raw" form via USB-2.0 port. Studio 8 will
allow me to encode this "raw" file to MPEG 1, 2, AVI etc if need be
(this is a very fast process). Ppro does not seem to recognize the
Dazzle 150 or I would record directly into it. I then wish to take
this video into Ppro to edit, author a DVD in Encore and burn it to
watch on my home (NTSC) DVD player. Straight forward, right ?
This is where my questions come in - what settings should I record
to - 350x480, 480x480 or 7XX x4XX (whatever the DVD NTSC standard
is). I realize that VHS is a lower resolution than DV, is 7XX x 4XX
over kill ? Yet, I want to Minimize rendering time (don't we all)
and keep the BEST quality. If the final output (DVD) is 7XX x 4XX,
would it render faster to record it in this resolution ? I have a
much better understanding of digital audio . . . video seems so much
more complicated, I must be missing some key points . . .
Also, What is the best way to eliminate /minimize the (typical VHS)
noise and the annoying line of garble that often appears at the
bottom edge of my video ? I tried using After Effects "remove grain"
on a one minute sample recorded at 350x480, it was going to take
like 20 minutes to render !? I know rendering is a slow process, but
that seems a little extreme doesn't it ? Is there a feature in Ppro
that would do this that I have missed ?
Does the video card have any effect on the speed of rendering time ?
Should I get a new one ? If so, What would be a good choice for
analogue recording and offer DV for a planned DV camera purchase in
the future ? I not sure if this effects the answer, but, I already
have a Firewire port on my computer.
I thank you in advance for your help !
Todd
