Subject: RE: [AP] Video For Internet - need help with compression

Good stuff Jeff,

The url that you give names the piece with the horse as a ".asf" file..
what format is that? I thought the window media encoder saved files as
.wmv's.

ASF stands for "asynchronous streaming file".
My understanding is that is a change in the instruction set for the
server. Where a Windows Media Video (WMV) file downloads completely
before it starts playing, an ASF file allows the media player to start
playback as soon as an adequate buffer is built up.
In terms of the wrapper and the playback information (video, audio and
data-"the bits"), there is no difference whatsoever.it IS still a
Windows Media Video file, only with a different header for streaming.
All that you need to do to make an ASF file is to change the file
extension after you upload the WMV file to the server.
