Unless I'm missing something, Jeff, I have in fact placed a link directly to the .wmv, and my Firefox browser uses it to open WMP9 and play the file. The appropriate MIME type association was either set by default or I did it and don't remember. What I was missing is what Taky provided and although his code doesn't work with my particular code for embedding the WMV player, there are several different versions to accomplish that and the one he's using apparently does the trick. I haven't tried subbing it in for my own because I haven't had time today, but I'll get to it and report the results, not that I doubt they'll be what I'm after.

Windows knows its own and when it hits a wmv it opens its Media Player. Netscape/Firefox seems deliberately to not understand the file format. I create a separate link to the file when I embed web video for just this reason. View it in Firefox and you will NOT see the embedded player. You'll have to use the separate link referring to Netscape. I've spent many hours trying to get around this but either I'm not up to it or their browser isn't.
