Or, you can copy the dvd .vob files to your harddrive, rename the .mpg, and use them. Granted, in Premiere 1.5, it's not easy to edit mpg files, but there are solutions out there that exist, such as mainconcepts, that allow you to edit native .mpg. (And one can always hope for .mpg editing in future versions of Premiere Pro...)

So if you want to edit something that you got off of a dvd, you're always going to need to transcode to avi format first, no matter what editing software you have. I like Premiere.
