It is certainly a problem often reported, but by no means universal. I've 
used 6.02 and 6.5 for five years now, connecting to a VCR/TV through 
firewire to two different Sony camcorders, and RCAs/S-Video from the cam to 
the VCR, in order to monitor my work, and never had this particular 
problem. But it's one well worth finding a solution to, because the 
monitoring path I've described is by far the easiest and cheapest way to 
see your work on a TV set, which is where most people watch video productions.
