Regarding GPU...
I'm trying to remember the literature I've read, but it is GPU acceleration
for all rendering, or only for GPU-enabled effects and transitions. (I can't
remember-- my hunch tells me it's only for GPU effects/transitions, but I
may be wrong.) Also, if you are sending the program out to an attached
television monitor / DV device, then it will not use the GPU-acceleration.
Something to consider when factoring in the cost of a new graphics card with
the return on your investment.

Yes... it is really expensive. And the thing is that all of my gaming is
done on my Xbox 360 so I won't use it for anything but the odd game of
solitaire. I'm not doing any After Effects either. But I read that Premiere
Pro 2 is using the GPU for rendering so I figured that I ought to dig up the
dough.. And I'm going to test Avid Liquid Pro with its requirements of 256MB
graphics card..
But I think I might settle for Quadra FX 1400.
