If your using Premiere 6.x I would;

1- put the original clip in [Video 1A] 
2- copy it and place it right above the original on [Video 2]
3- then use transparency settings 'Screen' to correct the clip
4- you can still use other effect controls-filters too
5- Make sure your using a monitor to see your results

I like using 'non-destructive' image repair [you can tell I'm a photoshop user] 
because it's what makes the difference between 'linear' editing and 
'non-linear' editing.
