In the bitterest of ironies, I posted several days ago that I was planning
to hang on to my Pinnacle DV500 that I've been using without problems for
several years with Premiere 6.x and asked a few questions about its
compatibility with the XP platform -- only to discover that it has finally
given up the ghost: it doesn't put out the analog output signal any more. (I
have no idea how or why this happened, but there it is ...)

So looks like I'm now going to have to find another solution - that is,
another capture and video playback card/board that I can use with Premiere
6.5. I figure I should take this chance to "modernize" my card, but don't
particularly want to go overboard with a luxury solution.

I see that Pinnacle has come out with a low-cost product called Studio
MovieBoard, which *seems* to be a candidate for replacing the old DV500
hardware and would let me capture DV and edit it in Premiere 6.5 with analog
output to my TV during editing like I had done before with DV500. From the
description, it also seems to capture from both analog and DV sources, like
the old DV500 did. More specifically, it has the "500-PCI Internal Video
Capture Card."

But, not knowing much about all this, I'm not sure I've interpreted it all
correctly. In particular, I'm worried that this product might be "closed"
and only let me use the Pinnacle-provided editing software, not Premiere.
And it's not clear to me what format the footage would be in. In DV500, the
format is "Pinnacle DV." The MovieBoard product spec says it can capture DV,
but doesn't specify in any more detail this "DV" format.

And I suppose that if/when I disinstall DV500, I'll lose the ability to work
with my old DV500 Premiere projects?

Can somebody enlighten me here? And for that matter, any recommendations of
any nature are most appreciated.

John
