Blu-Ray recordable/rewritable has a capacity of 25GB. TDK says they're developing a 200GB Blu-Ray disc. HD-DVD recordable/rewriteable has a capacity of 15GB. Expect capacities of both to almost double when dual layer recordable discs are made. (Also expect retail outlets to only carry overpriced 3-packs of dual layer discs, same as they do dual layer DVD-R media, even though 100% of DVD-RW drives on the shelves now are DL compatable.) There are tape drives available with a true 100GB (uncompressed) capacity. Another option would be a video backup server with a huge RAID that has mirrored and striped arrays so that if a drive fails no data gets lost. Mirroring requires twice as many drives (you get 1/2 the total capacity) but is the absolute ultimate in protection against drive failure. The odds of having a drive on each side of the mirror, in the same position (ie, holding the same data) simultaneously fail are practically zero. Keep a couple of drives on hand to hot swap in case of failure, or invest in a RAID with automatic hotswap and data re-mirroring. Such a system will also have various ways of alerting the IT department when that happens. The usual procedure then is to physically move the swapped drive in place of the failed one then install a new drive in the swap slot. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Never Miss an Email Stay connected with Yahoo!
