Well she has a point if the free version does indeed watermark the 
footage. I did not know that. I use mencoder on the Apple to create 
DivX files and that is free as well but doesn't watermark and gives 
excellent results.

Mencoder is a linux/unix thing so maybe it's available for Windows as well?
