Thanks for looking that up. I also got responds from the Matrox support. The
.mvrt file is a matrox specific file. Here's the response.

XMP: Metadata is any data that helps to describe the content or characteristics
of a file. With an XMP-enabled application, information about a project can be
captured during the content-creation process and embedded within the file and
into a content-management system.

MVRT: These files are created by the Matrox tools anytime you create or altar a
Matrox project. They contain information specific to that project, which
Premiere uses when loading them. Therefore, they should no be deleted. If you
are deleting the project, you can then delete its copresponding .mvrt file.

I've wondered about these files myself and so your question prompted
  me go answer hunting.

This is the answer I found on whatis.com for the .xmp extension:
"Developed by Adobe Systems, XMP is a labeling technology that allows
organizations to embed data about files into the files themselves.
Desktop applications and back-end publishing systems thereby gain a
common method for capturing, sharing, and leveraging this valuable
metadata - essentially "plowing the ground" for more efficient job
processing, workflow automation, rights management, and digital asset
  repurposing."

And apparently there is a variety of software that can be used to
access and edit the file. What is to be done with it beyond that, I
  don't know yet.

I'm also still looking for the answer to the .mvrt file.
