Try creating your 'line' as a photoshop PSD file with transparent
background and superimpose it over the map. Then experiment with a 4-point
garbage mask effect to expose the line as your timeline progresses. You
will probably want to keep one edge of the garbage mask aligned with the
edge of the circle where it meets the 'line'.
At least that's how I would first attempt it.
