It is full version of pro cs3. I took the mpg file and used my VAIO
Content Exporter to export as a DV Codec AVI 2.0 and was able to
import and edit that. I then took the mpg file and using the
Content Exporter exported as mpeg2. That file worked also.

I used my computer's Video and Photo Utilies Content Importer to
copy the disc originally which saved the clips to the mpg format
that doesn't work. There are no options to save as something
different. I can't even see what mpeg type it imports the files
as. Obviously it must be something not compatible with premiere pro.

MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files are different than AVI that it has no

Is your Premiere a trial version or upgrade from a trial version?
That happens to trial version won't load MPEG file.

I will try to find some info on setting the codec on the web. This
is the first I have tried Premiere. WMV files seem to fun fine.

Might be a few things, since you said mpeg files, probably you
 don't have
the codec for mpeg encoding on Premiere, it might also be overlay
 drivers is
out of date, etc. I would say try getting the codec for mpeg
 playback on
 premiere.

Also, test to see if avi also shows up green, if avi files does
 the same,
most likely your video driver might need to be updated.
