I got your podcast and tried the heart effect. Had the same problem that Jean
had so I guess I need to go to P2 or higher (Still using P1.5.1)? Worked it so
many times I don't think I will ever forget how to do it. I have P2 and I am
gonna load it and try the effect again. Hopefully the production will carry
over without any problems.
BTW I must second what Jean said about the quality of the podcast. Just great.
Thanks for your effort. Where can I find an archive of more of your podcasts?

Ah yes, the moving matte issue. That was a problem they addressed in
Premiere Pro 2.0 and later releases.

In 1.5, you have to scale and position and rotate and all that fun stuff in
a separate sequence. THEN nest that sequence into another sequence, and use
it as a track matte.

As far as the issue of the source video and the matte moving together --
that's just an unfortunate side effect of the way the Premiere Pro
programmers decided to make the matte behave. Once you apply a track matte,
the video and matte are "locked" together in position, so to speak. The
solution is to apply your source video position/rotation/scale BEFORE adding
the track matte effect.

Not desirable in the least, but... se la vi. Then again, advanced track
mattes are better done in After Effects, so Premiere's "light"
implementation intentionally has much to be desired.

Hi,

First of all, your podcasts are a fabulous help--thank you!

I just looked at the one about track mattes, with the heart example. I'm
using Premiere Pro 1.5, and track mattes have been a problem for me. In your
example, you are able to resize the heart. I cannot do that. If I leave the
track invisible in order to use the track matte feature, then when I try to
resize the heart, nothing happens. I slide the size slider, and it has no
effect. If I make the track visible, then it shows the little white heart
getting larger or smaller, but the transparent shape of the heart with the
video behind it stays the same size. I read somewhere that you have to
resize each item in a separate sequence and then nest that sequence within
the first one. That does allow me to resize the matte, but then even after
bringing the sequence in as the matte, I cannot move the clip under it. Both
the clip on video 2 and the matte move together. Any help would be really
appreciated.

Thanks,

Jean

Hi there,

You can make it at your own with Photoshop or Premiere titler, then use
matte key video effect and moving it as transition.

Or you can use the transition plug-in from any video developer such Boris FX
, etc.

I think i have a good shape heart transition in my HD. But i must looking
for it first, it's long enough i don't use it. When i found it, i'll send it
to you. Hope you don't need it in rush.

Regrds,

Edli
