I use a combination of programs to pull the info out, sometimes, one program
wouldn't do a good job of converting a dvd info, the easiest way is renaming
it to .mpg (which look for the biggest .vob file and it is usually the video
with 1 audio stream, btw, in a dvd, there are several files, one is the
subtitle, and other audio stream, I don't believe there is multiple audio
stream on one .vob file, the additional streams and subtitles are located on
different files either as another .vob or other).

Some DVD that are PAL, then you definitely need a program to do the
conversation, by using a combination of programs it'll provide you a good
quality, although, bare in mind, the encoded DVD may have a data rate
between 2500 to 7000, meaning, the lower the rate when it was encoded, the
worst the quality will come out when you try to re-convert it back to a
format to edit on Premiere.

Also, better to edit on AVI format than on mpeg2, although Premiere CS3
would allow you so, since mpeg2 is frame based, it's much harder to 'scroll'
and move around for editing purposes.

Hi Group, I’m new here, but I think I can help with this one.

A .VOB file is not a simple mpeg, it may have more than one áudio track and
several subtitles.

A simple and easy way to extract this is using TMPGEnc 4.5
(http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/te4xp.html).

Use the “source wizard”, choose DVD. It Will list all the vídeos and áudio
tracks of the DVD, check the ones you see fit.

It has an option to copy the files to the hard drive, which is a good Idea
to increase the speed of encoding.

As a target file format. Choose DV AVI (Microsoft has a native codec for
this).

Your final encoded file should be 100% compatible with Premiere. Happy
editing!

Ernie
