I don't know about the capturing issue since my cameras use disk, but about
the sound: did you wait long enough after importing? Just a thought because
even with CS3/Vista I notice that immediately after importing the sound will
not play in the timeline. But what is happening is that in the background
CS3 is "conforming" each imported file, which can take awhile, and only
after it is done will the sound play. Maybe it works from the project panel
because it is possible it plays directly from the file whereas the timeline
waits for the conformed file and uses that for sound.

This may not be your sound issue but I thought I'd ask just in case.

Subject: [AP] Premiere Pro 7.0 and VISTA?

Hi--I'm new to this group. Haven't had any real trouble with Premiere
for years. I still have 7.0 that I got in 2003, I think. Finally took
the plunge earlier this year and got a new computer running Windows
VISTA. I was really relieved when Premiere Pro installed with no
problems and appeared to work OK. However, yesterday was the first
time I really tried to use it and have run into a couple big
problems. I could not get it to capture video from my Canon camcorder-
-the same one I've captured from many times, using my old computer
with XP. And today I discovered that if I import a clip, it will
preview correctly with sound in the Project window, but the sound
will not play from the Timeline whether scrubbing or playing. This
makes it impossible to do a decent job of editing, of course.

Can someone please tell me if this is an incompatibility and I'm
going to have to buy a new video editing program or if there is
something that may have gotten set wrong when it installed? I've gone
over and over Preferences and Project Settings and can't find
anything that looks wrong.

Thank you!

Mary
