hello, 
sometimes times this happens with matrox card.it would behave in this strange 
way. haven't yet figured out the exact cause but try any of the  following 
options : 

1) simply convert the required video(avi) to ntsc/pal, as the case may be, in 
grass valley-procoder and then import the converted one to premiere, u'll have 
the audio playing. most of the times this works.

2) just run disk clean-up/ defrag the pc. 
3) export the video to movie from the non-matrox project and then take it to 
matrox project. 
4) chk the size of media cache and preview files folder of the project- if its 
too large, take a new project. 

most of the time the first option works. 2nd and 3rd sometimes. i think the 1st 
one is the absolute workable solution found so far.
