all heads are not created equal

but it depends on the weight and size of your camera

yes, a very long camera may require a better head, or you may feel
better with it

duh, larger heads = more $$$, but you knew that

so the next question is what camera do you have or are you considering?

note - better too much head than too little, especially if you move up
to a larger camera later, or if you tend to shoot at the long end of the
lens, like live concerts or lectures where your cam placement is not so
much under your control. If you are shooting movies or interview in
small places, not so much of a concern. Also you tend not to move so
much, so bigger heavier stix are less of a problem than when you run and
gun and a heavy tripod is a lot more to carry

the capacity of the head is usually stated in the lit, it can handle a
cam up to X lbs. (or kg if you are in the metric part of the world)

I still have, and may occasionally use, my old betacam tripod with a 40
pound capacity. imagine putting a Z7 on that, but I've done it. or use
my slightly smaller tripod with almost as much capacity. it just feels
more secure when I'm shooting an event entirely at the long end
