Personally, with 3 X TB drives, run the software as normal on drive 1, but put the other 1TB drives as a RAID 0 (Striping) for the HD video. Ideally, add another 1TB drive and have dual RAID 0 setups, one for software/OS and the other for the video/scratch. Drives are cheap, so if your mobo can handle it, its probably worth the extra.
I use a seperate offline machine for editing and that alone, no AV, Spy/Spam/Malware software or even update software, it all adds to the burden of a fast machine. I'd rather configure an editing rig than an online gaming rig any day. Viagra not needed...... Neil.
