Camcorders recording to AVCHD usually are
referred to as HD or Full HD. HDV is really an
old format, not to be recommended because it's
not really full HD, it records on lower
resolution and in playback the pixes are
stretched. Some HDV cameras record to memory card
and I think that's in the mpeg2 format as well.
It's thanks to mp4 compression that cameras were
able to capture and record full HD in full HD
resolution without needing tricks like pixel stretching.

Also for the rendering it depens on what you
choose for, in Final Cut Pro and Premiere you can
also render to an mpeg2 or mjpeg like
intermediate format like ProRes422 on Apple,
Premiere has something similar I believe?
