I got the Canon XA10, which I'm really enjoying. I'd have popped for
the XF100 because the codec and color space are better (50 mbs
opposed to the XA10's 25 mbs, and 4:2:2 compared to 4:2:0) and it has
better physical button controls, but the XF100 is bigger, doesn't
have a detachable handle, and there's no underwater housing for it at present.

For a small run-and-gun camcorder, the XA10 is delightful. I love the
quality of the image and its flexibility. And if you have to rely on
its auto controls, the auto-focus, auto-exposure, and auto-white
balance are so much better than my old Sony HVR-A1U. I also like
flying with it to faraway locations without paying too much more for
excess baggage. Small and unobtrusive is good.
