Mike, The best is to stick with firewire and get a card. Surely one of the three computers your friend got will have a spare slot.
Premiere will also not capture via USB and you would need a program that does, don't know which one. You can get firewire to USB adapters but I know people had problems with them. It looks like certain adapters only work for specific cameras. check this link http://www.nextag.com/firewire-to-usb-cable/products-html Uwe On 12/27/2011 9:49 PM, Mike Boom wrote: > > Happy end of 2011, everyone -- and best wishes for a 2012 that > improves substantially on its predecessor. > > I have an end-of-year question for people who still work with > Firewire-downloading camcorders and may have a computer that doesn't > have a Firewire port: how do you download your footage into your computer? > > I know that you can get a Firewire card for a desktop computer or a > laptop with an expansion slot, but if you're using a computer that > has no expansion capabilities other than a USB port, is there a > working conversion device that converts Firewire to USB?
