The fact that a new user account had to be created is indicative that the registry was "corrupted", and that corruption could possibly have happened by attempting to reinstall without shutting down first (not always an issue). I theorize that while you were uninstalling, some user-specific registry entries could not be permanently updated at that moment because it was in use, so those updates were deferred. Shutdown will finalize everything. But without a shutdown, we can theorize some user-specific vestigial registry entries confused the install process. Anyway, that's just theory and no longer relevant. However, the fact that it wasn't deactivated first is not what caused the problem, nor that the computer was not connected to the internet at the time of install. The OS doesn't care anything about activation since that is an Adobe mechanism - all that is necessary in those cases is to call Adobe to explain the problem and they can manually update their data base on your behalf. Win7/CS6 are what I use and it (now) works great. Unfortunately, many XP computers are unable to run Win7/CS6 satisfactorily because of computer motherboard memory limitations, and a proper graphics card might be helpful. In all honesty, I would recommend a minimum of 12GB of memory - I had 8GB at one time which worked only for the simplest timelines. I went to 12GB w/868MB graphics which worked for most timelines but Mercury Playback Engine-mode crashed predictably whenever a lot of scaling or repositioning was performed, especially with photos. I wanted to use MPE so I went to 32GB and a 2GB graphics CUDA card and haven't experienced a crash since. Sorry you had to go through all this but hopefully you are now up and being productive! After about 1 1/2 hours on line with tech support, I am back up and running. However, the way he fixed the problem in the end was by setting up a new using account. To answer your questions though..... When I first tried uninstalling and reinstalling an outdated version of AVG was running, which my brother said may be causeing a problem so we disabled it. I didn't reboot the computer after doing the initial uninstall, went through all the normal steps to reinstall ~~~but like I said, when I first attempted to reinstall I was not hookedup to the internet, so it never went through to Adobe. From there it said it was installed on the computer, but I couldn't launch, uninstall, or install. Nothing was working. The tech guy went to google--revouninstaller--revouninstallerproexe from there he uninstalled premiere pro and we reinstalled it with the same problem as before. Would launch to the purple box...loading components...then would disappear when the window tried to open. Thats when he set up a new user account and it launched without a problem. he also used joinme to gain access to my computer. thank you again for trying! Im thinking over the winter (my off season) I may switch to Windows 7 and try CS6. Any suggestions in that direction??
