It must be a bug somewhere in the CUDA of Premiere or the video driver. This is 
common.

I would do the following steps in this order until the problem is fixed.

1) Update to the most recent video driver for your graphics card from the 
manufacturer's website.

2) Apply any updates to CS5.5.

3) upgrade to CS6 with the latest patches applied. (You can download the trial 
version to see if this fixes your problem before buying the upgrade).

4) upgrade your video card.
