Looking at the file listings on the PDF file you posted in the Files
section of this group, it appears the local store made one long movie
that spans across consecutively numbered VOB files such as this example:
04/26/2013 04:34 AM 88,064 VTS_01_0.VOB04/26/2013 04:35 AM
1,073,565,696 VTS_01_1.VOB04/26/2013 04:37 AM 1,073,565,696
VTS_01_2.VOB04/26/2013 04:37 AM 1,073,565,696
VTS_01_3.VOB04/26/2013 04:37 AM 1,073,565,696
VTS_01_4.VOB04/26/2013 04:37 AM 122,327,040 VTS_01_5.VOB
I use MPEG Streamclib from www.squared5.com <http://www.squared5.com>
to convert DVD movies to full-frame editable AVI files. MPEG Streamclip
will automatically piece together those consecutively numbered VOB files
into one video. For the DVD from the chain store that separated the
films into different chapters:
VTS_01_1.VOBVTS_02_1.VOBVTS_03_1.VOB
MPEG Streamclip will allow you to select the chapter of your choice from
a pull-down selection. I use it all the time for my monthly productions.
The only caveat is that you must have either:
    1. Apple QuickTime with the purchased MPEG2 decoder add-on or
    2. QuickTime Alternative 1.81 with the free MPEG2 decoder
Only one of the above can be present on your system. The other must be
uninstalled.

submitted 4 to a local store to be converted to DVD. To save me money
they put all four unrelated movies on one DVD. I have since submitted
others to a chain one at a time for conversion. Viewed on PC almost all
the original films seem to have been taken at different times/seasons
and involve different people.

two different films in "DVD File Compare".

VOB files seem to be the largest. How do I ensure that no information
gets lost? What would be the best conversion program?
