There was a README under version 3.1.20 (maybe a little earlier)
that discussed this topic, it is possible to achieve a little cross
recovery ( I can't exactly remember which way around it went though).
Richard is right however, you need to be carefull about it because data
backed up by the agent is a particular bytestream representation, i.e. how
the aix agent backed it up. Reading it with the API may not
give you what you expect, although I'd imagine (and I sure I tested it)
as a single file recovery it does work.
Look for the README in one of the top level install directories

That doesn't work. You cannot operate across client paradigms,
meaning command line or GUI vs. API, or across different
file system types. The product is architected such that it is
not possible to do this, through intention, as the combinations
do not make a lot of sense.
