Richard,
Right... I only needed to restart the TSM server in order to resume the
http service on port 1580. Backups ran all week-end as normal. Admin
events processed normally. The activity log does not seem to show any hint
as to how it could have been disabled. The only difference in the
environment was the macro ibmtsm.mac that was run on Friday afternoon to
enable events in TSM. It's the only thing I could figure could have
somehow affected http's operations then... Could it have?
The rest of the server was not affected. All other services were running
fine, and I was able to administer TSM using the command line session
exclusively. The Web client was running fine on that node too (so I could
perform backup/restore requests from/to the TSM server if I wanted to,
using the Web browser GUI on port 1581).
I will keep in mind the commands you suggested should the scenario
re-occur. Thanks.

Serge - I'd be curious to determine what caused this...
Any clues in the server Activity Log, or maybe even the AIX
Error Log? I presume you found your server otherwise functioning,
and had to be restarted only to resume http service.
If the situation recurs, perhaps you can use 'netstat' or 'lsof' to
check for any connections to that port.
