copy storage pool tape volume recreation

have a copy storage pool which each has a tape A00459 that is broken
 
just checking on options available to recover data from primary storage pool
 
 will this work
 
    delete bad tape  - DELETE VOLUME A00459 
    issue command - BACKUP STG NETWARE_TAPE NETWARE_COPY 
 
 or will i have to recreate all copy storage pool tapes
