Well actually I will have other TSM NT servers in the picture but my problem is that I need to get the data to an MVS tape device and by using the NT TSM server I thought I was forced to move the data via IP to get it to MVS. Currently MVS is the only client who can access the tape device in question.
Where is the issue with doing what I want? Is it because the MVS TSM Server is not a client or is it because the MVS TSM server cannot read the FS? I was hoping that it would be like in Distributed environments where you quite regularly need to back up raw disk as that is quite regularly used for Database storage. Thanks! If you were running another NT, or AIX and Solaris and eventually HP-UX TSM server then there is a way to do this, but not on MVS. -- Joshua S. One of the key points to my question is the fact that we will be using enterprise storage devices that are accessible from both the MVS Side(via ESCON) and the NT side (via Fibre Channel). My question is: Assuming MVS can take ownership of a NT LUN, that is actually a mirror (broken) of a production LUN, can the TSM Server running on MVS backup this LUN in a RAW format? I understand that MVS will not be able to read the file system but I figure it should be able to backup and restore the volume RAW. Does anyone out there have any information on this or pointers to information on this in the documentation? Thankyou for your help and time Rick
