The tapes used for backup sets do not live in storage pools, they act more
like database backup tapes. They do not show up as volumes in "q vol", but
will show up in a "q libv" when checked into the library.
The GUI and Web clients cannot restore individual files from backupsets,
only whole file spaces. The command line client can, but only if you know
the exact file name, there is no "pick" function. You can generate a
contents list at the server.
If your active files are spread across a number of tapes, all of the tapes
must be read to generate the backupset.

Thanks for your input. I guess it will be a usual trial and error with
TSM to see if it works.

Joe,
Saw your post...

So far so good.

Nope...just the active files, or at least that's all it does currently.

No way to do that that I'm aware of.

The only other thing I'd add is that there a lot of posts regarding
problem restoring from backupsets earlier this year on the list. As I
recall, the command line syntax is pretty arcane. I haven't tried it
myself. I have a couple of customers experimenting with it, but no
production environments yet.
Test carefully!
