That sounds like a good work around Ullrich. I will implement jbb on all my OS type backup clients.

Have you already checked the usage of cpu, memory, disks, network, and the tape storage devices? You will need more CPU power and at least 25% more memory running two instances. If your problem is caused by backing up some clients over a long period of time and/or from - something like - different time zones having two or more TSM server instances should help. If some local clients are running too long, check for doing things more in parallel and/or start using journal based backup (if possible). I've found that more easy than administering many instances... I have a TS3310 tape library with 6 drives, which will obviously have to be shared with the 1st instance. I am considering this as I am having a hard time getting all my schedules and the Administrative tasks completed in a 24hr cycle. My offsite creates are taking ages and run from 4am until +- 3-4pm not leaving a large enough window for admin tasks. Is this a good practice from your previous experiences?
