Happiness is the flip-side of unhappiness. Seeing one means seing the other = dvaita.
Does the happiness of giving depend on the existence of unhappiness (in self or others) for its enjoyment? Advaita-wise, the ever-abiding sky remains untouched by the passing clouds of happiness and unhappiness, which are in essence nothing but ephemeral forms appearing in and of that non-attached sky itself. This is not to say that, possessed by 'I am' in this embodied state of consciousness, one should not act spontaneously and naturally in helping 'others' as the need arises...... but to depend for one's happiness on the continued existence of those 'less fortunate'........ could be said to be somewhat 'demonaic'! Sri Ramakrishna and Mother Theresa defined the path of helping others as service to the divine Self/God within all...... and its joy expressed as gratitude for the opportunity to be of such service.
