Life is painful because the body is designed that way. The body-mind organism is always avoiding pain. It is so designed so that we may not hurt ourselves and do foolish things. Of course, it hurts to lose a leg or being tortured for years in a Nazi research facility. There is intense suffering in life. But the suffering is only in the body and the mind. In the Self, there is no suffering. Again, all this perceived suffering is only in the waking state where there is a body. To be absolutely honest, suffering of the mind or the body is not reality due to its temporary nature, however intense it may be. Traumatic experiences are still in the mind and not in the Self. Body-mind suffering is 100% guaranteed in one form or the other. But there is no suffering in the Self. Pure Awareness is free from all attributes. I may howl in pain if someone cuts my hand off. But in the end, I know it was not me who suffered. And I am not saying this just to show off or anything. I am only saying that I have no fear if any such event occurs. Being free from fear is most important.
