If there is an "I" that is awaiting validation on its so-called experience of being enlightened, then, one can wait the entire life to no avail. There is no "you" that can experience enlightenment. This is the whole point.
About the mystical sensations: if I examine what happens, I can only find a bunch of thoughts that point to enlightenment; these thoughts may or may not be translated and developed into feelings of frustration or tension (for not 'finding' enlightenment, hopelessness, anxiety etc etc). The mixture of thoughts and feelings may provide the basis for the 'sense' that 'I am not enlightened yet' thus 'I have to do more retreats, go to more gurus, read more books etc etc' About enlightenment being associated with physical experience. It has been vividly reported that enlightenment (to be understood as Self Realization), it simply causes a physical reaction in the body as the original contraction (self) opens up and disappears. Basically, it is only energy that contracted and , then, becomes released. The simile is the one of the closed fist that becomes an open hand. Therefore, the process is entirely physical and does not involve any thinking or doctrine or intellectual exercise.
