Yes it is unfortunate that I played into your prejudice of database
administrators/analysts or whatever by letting my contempt show, and I was
wrong for saying developers with out some or many (especially since I still
am one). My comments do not imply that I don't care about the application
code. One of my complaints concerns the lack of teamwork and we did hire a
decent developer recently. I can't help it that many / most developers (or
DBA's) for that matter don't care about their work, don't use the resources
available to educate themselves and keep making the same mistakes over and
over again. Like I said in an earlier post there are still way too many
people in this field that need to get out. I have had the same problem
when I didn't do any database work and had to do code review of my peers at
my last job.

So I guess we should stop complaining about people by title and agree that
we don't like people that can't or won't do their job. I like Jeff Little
's post and if I could write that well and weren't so frustrated with my
job(s) and this industry maybe this thread would be much shorter.

Let's face it, the folks who post here are all pretty much on the ball
in terms of knowledge, interest and dedication. We can differ on
details, but we are all coming from a pretty solid knowledge base. There
are legions of folks who don't share that dedication, interest or
knowledge, as has been pointed out, and they can poison the water for
the rest of us.

I think this sums it up quite well.

To be quite honest my contempt stems from the poor work ethic from people
in general not just in this business. I despise poor quality work and bad
attitudes period.
