I would download and run this tool: http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
And, look through the entries there to see if anything obviously related to messenger or passport is set to autostart. If it is, then uncheck it and see if that makes things better. I overlooked the fact that you were running win2k, so I wouldn't run the script. Jacob A. Grass -----Original Message----- From: Discussion of advanced .NET topics. I knew someone could help... Before I try this, I want to warn you that this is happening on my work laptop that runs Windows 2K. The application link you gave me is for XP. I know Windows or MS Messenger does seem to come with XP, but I don't see Windows Messenger icon in my tool tray on this Win2K PC? I also quickly scanned my programs listing off the Start button and do not see the application "Windows Messenger". I do use a lot of MS applications and I have a hotmail account, but I think this all started to "mercilessly prompt me" after going to the msn.moneycentral.com account. I have purged all cookies that may have to do with moneycentral. I can go ahead and run this XP script if you don't think it will harm a Win2K PC. This window or promt pops up even when I don't have MS IE Explorer running. I don't think I joined the right forum, but maybe someone can help. Although I have a hotmail email address, I don't have Microsoft Money nor plan on needing to log on to my Microsoft Passport account. My computer that is doing this is my work laptop. I think this may have started when I visited the msn Money Central web site. I tried removing all cookies and that did not help? Anyone know how to disable this prompt that keeps coming up. Right now my solution is to just let the popup prompt come up and just leave it there behind my other applications all day. If I close the window, it just comes back in a few minutes.
